Who Is Terrence Koch?

As the heading suggests, I am Terrence Koch and I want to thank you for visiting my Blog, Half Air. I have been creating content for the internet since the late 1990’s. My first website was mainly a Christian book review site. After running the site for a couple of years I added a monthly newsletter where I published mainly opinion pieces. This was my only distinctly Christian endeavor up until now.

I ended my review site early in 2002 and was relatively silent until 2006 when I became a writer for Reality TV Talk, a reality television based message board that featured recaps and article about various reality television shows. No surprise there. While writing for the site, my then girlfriend (now wife) Deborah and I began a reality based podcast called Dancin’ at the Tribal Pitstop which ran for about a year in 2010-2011. As if that wasn’t enough, I also published a blog called Tev’s Next Idea, which also ran during 2010-2011. My last and most recent venture was to produce a news segment for the Toddcast 2.0, a nerdy, geeky podcast hosted by Todd Sullivan, a friend I met online. I produced the “Toddcast News” segment for about two and a half years until Todd ended the podcast in 2016.

With the end of the Toddcast 2.0, I was hoping to focus my attention on writing, specifically Christian writing. I have always had a talent for writing and felt that this was a talent that I wanted to use to help spread the Gospel and teach about God. I had several essay ideas and even started research for a book. (Of course, every writer wants to write a book.) However, my time was limited. With a full-time job and other responsibilities at home, I only had a limited amount of personal time. Much of that was enjoyably spent with my family. What little time was left had to be shared among my other interests, the two most prominent being writing and gaming. Often, I chose to game because, while writing might ultimately be more fulfilling, I was typically ready to "turn off my mind" and not put in the effort that writing required. It was while I was contemplating how I could find a better balance between the two that Half Air was conceived.

Why Half Air?

For an explanation of the meaning behind the name Half Air, you can read my first blog post. As for the "why” I felt Half Air was a way I could combine everything I enjoy into one project that is fun and exciting. I can enjoy all aspects of my life (family, work, gaming, etc.), write about it from a Christian* perspective, and post gameplay videos for entertainment.

Now, I’m not expecting Half Air to replace my more lofty writing projects, as those cover much deeper subjects than I’m planning on dealing with here. Instead, I see Half Air as a lifestyle blog where I hope my faith will influence what I post and how I post it, even though that faith will not necessarily the focus of most articles. That being said, there will be times when my faith will take center stage, whether it's a book review, a commentary on current events, or a meaningful lesson or truth I wish to share. In other words, as I stated in my introductory post, I'm not going to beat you over the head with the Bible. However, the Bible will always be in the room, and every now and then I might tap you on the shoulder with it.

*These days the term “Christian” is often misused or misunderstood. Therefore, I feel it necessary to define how I understand the term. Probably the best way is to share a Facebook post I made last Easter (2017):

Someone IS NOT a Christian because they...

Are kind, loving and considerate; Are generous and charitable; Go to church, pray and read the Bible; Refrain from lying, cheating, or stealing; Practice a code of moral or family values; Have a certain political view; Identify with, or love a person of, a particular gender; Or educate their children in a certain manner. Instead...

Someone IS a Christian because they...

Do most things WRONG much of the time, But trust in the work of Jesus Christ, Who, despite doing everything RIGHT all of the time, Suffered and died to pay the penalty for what THEY did wrong, So that, Through faith, They may be eternally reconciled to God.
