Three Books To Read In 2019

Three Books To Read In 2019

I’m well aware that what I am about to say may upset some of you. Still, I am not afraid to say it.

Over the past year, I have come to prefer reading books digitally instead of in the traditional bound paper format.

I know there are many bibliophiles who bemoan the move to digital, saying it’s destroying the book industry and eliminating jobs. Unless you are a collector, I believe the value of a book is the information it contains, not the paper it is printed on or the ink that forms the words. That same information is relayed regardless of format: paper, digital, or audio. As far as jobs, well that is a complete

Christmas Every Day

Christmas Every Day

Half Air faith article

One of the reasons I like to fill up at a Wawa store is that they play popular music over the gas pump station speakers. Of course, with it being December, Christmas songs have started to invade the playlist. Earlier this month I heard a song with which I was not familiar. A little research revealed that the name of the song was “I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day” (I believe it was the Kylie Minogue version) and the chorus goes like this:

When the kids start singing and the band begins to play
Oh I wish it could be Christmas every day

Nothing Demonstrates The Doctrine Of Total Depravity Quite Like A Good Ol’ Zombie Apocalypse

Half Air faith articleYou’ve probably heard people say, “I believe humans are basically good.” Or perhaps, “Children are born innocent (i.e. good) and learn how to be bad.”
God says something different.

Ordinary Life

Ordinary Life

Just a Day, Just an ordinary day.  –  Vanessa Carlton

Half Air faith articleSeveral months ago I listened to an interview with Andrew Petiprin on the Steve Brown Etc. podcast. Among other things, Andrew is Canon to the Ordinary at his Episcopal church. In typical SBE fashion, the hosts gave him some good-natured ribbing about that title until the guest explained that the Ordinary is the bishop, or the “one who ordains,” thus making Andrew the assistant to the bishop. What I found interesting in all this was that the word we use for something that is normal and every day is shared with someone who is ordained by God and ordains… Read more...

Lord, Cool It!

Lord, Cool It!

Half Air faith articleIt has been a rough couple of months for the Koch household. In August our air conditioning quit. Turned out the unit needed to be replaced. We knew that was coming eventually and had planned for it financially. What was not so great was the fact that it took nine days to diagnose and repair the system. That’s nine days without AC during a hot Florida summer. Fortunately, we had earned enough points to stay in a hotel during that time.

Thirty-six hours after our new AC unit was installed our residence experienced a significant power loss. We weren’t completely without electricity, but lights dimmed,… Read more...
