Quick Shots: The Shema

Quick Shots: The Shema

Recently, as part of my daily devotional, I worked through a six-video series by The Bible Project on the Shema, a famous Jewish prayer based on Deuteronomy 6:4-5.  I more or less pulled this study out of a hat and my expectations weren’t that high. I doubted I was going to discover any deep new and exciting information.

Boy, was I wrong!

This Bible Project series is a word study of six key words in this prayer: Listen, LORD, Love, Heart, Soul, and Strength. The narrator takes each of these words and explores how the original Hebrew word would have been understood by the Israelites in Biblical times. … Read more...

What I Learned From Reading The Bible In A Year: A Review Of The Bible Recap

Half Air faith article

Right off the bat, let me say yes, I know. This article is a month too late. You don’t recommend a “Bible-In-A-Year” plan that is best started on January 1st midway through the month. Hopefully, you saw my brief mention The Bible Recap and checked it out, but if not, I apologize. However, just because you missed the official start date doesn’t mean you’re out of luck. You can start anytime, but more on that later.  First, I felt it might be helpful to share how I benefitted from reading through the Bible in a year.

This wasn’t my first journey through the scriptures. In fact, I had just finished a chronological… Read more...

I would suspect that the general concept of heaven is pretty universal. While it might be called something different depending on a person's religion or belief system, the idea of a place where humans will live once this life is over is understood by most, regardless of whether they believe such a place actually exists or not. For the Christian, Heaven represents eternal existence with our Creator, free from the effects or influence of sin. Heaven should be the home they ultimately long for and a motivation to help them live a life honoring to God. Unfortunately, this is often not the case. Part of… Read more...

Book Review: Talk The Walk by Steve Brown

Half Air faith article

For starters, I would like to thank Steve Brown for writing Talk The Walk. He has saved me a lot of time and effort.

When I was younger I was very prideful. I thought everyone should think as I do and I was quick to point out when someone was wrong. Fortunately, I am an introvert and, despite what I may have thought, I would often keep my mouth shut. Still, on the inside I seethed. I couldn't stop thinking about all the ways others were wrong and how I could prove it to them if I had the opportunity (and the guts)!

Before I go any further, let me correct two things I just said. The first is that I felt this way when I … Read more...

Book Review: Beyond the Cosmos by Hugh Ross

Book Review: Beyond the Cosmos by Hugh Ross

Half Air faith article

The relationship between Christianity and science has certainly been a roller coaster ride. In the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, the Church embraced science, viewing it as a way to increase their knowledge about God’s creation and, through it, learn more about God. (Rom 1:19-20) Many scientific advancements and discoveries of that time were made by scientists with a strong religious faith. [1] Over the past century or so that has certainly changed. Today, science is often held up as the antithesis to faith; the more one learns about how our universe works the less he needs to hold on to a belief… Read more...
