If you've been reading Half Air it will no surprise to hear that my family weathered hurricane Irma fairly well. We had no major damage and yard cleanup took about an hour. The greatest inconvenience was the loss of power for several days. The last night we were without power we stayed with friends who got power back earlier that day. The next several days we opened our house up to one of Deb's co-workers who still didn't have lights or electricity. Within hours of Hurricane Irma passing our home in Central Florida, one of my wife's co-workers texted her an article written by Dan Barker regarding prayer in the light of the recent storms in Texas and Florida. The gist of the article was this: The fact that hurricanes Harvey and Irma hit Texas and Florida despite the multiple prayers services that were held proves that prayer is powerless and is a waste of time. Preparing for Irma

There are several times throughout the year when family gathers together. It's a time to catch up on stories, share a meal, and maybe play a game. Usually, this is at Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter and other such times of the year. For us in Florida, it's a hurricane. By the time you are reading this, Hurricane Irma will probably have passed through Central Florida, but as I am writing this it is Saturday afternoon and we have yet to see any effects from the storm. Quick Shots for 09/08/2017

Remember the big Twinkie scare of 2012? You know, when we were all told that Twinkies were be being discontinued and we would no longer be able to buy the creme-filled, yellow sponge cake treats? As it turned out, it wasn't even a year before they were back on grocery store shelves. Not only that, but today we have additional Twinkie products, such as Deep Fried Twinkies and Twinkies Ice Cream. Now, I'm not one to give much credence to conspiracy theories, but in this case I willing to at least consider that possibility that the whole "scare" was nothing but a ploy to increase Twinkie demand.
